Celebrating Halloween All October

October is a wonderful month as it offers the opportunity to admire a variety of creative costumes. It is a fantastic time for cosplayers to witness the enthusiasm surrounding events that celebrate fantasy, treats, and art. Houston had a plethora of enjoyable activities to offer during October, and our DCC group took full advantage of the festivities, resulting in a memorable experience!

We commenced the month by attending a Princess Ball hosted by a local fairytale company. Young princesses from Northwest Houston joined us at the George H.W. Bush Community Center for an enchanting session of storytelling and magical interactions. We sang together, discussed our beloved Disney princesses and villains - it was truly a delightful experience!

During the middle of the month, we attended several conventions, including Dallas Fan Festival. We had the opportunity to mingle with artists, comic book enthusiasts, cosplayers, and even caught sight of some local celebrities!

The Dallas Fan Festival took place at the Irving Convention Center and was a thrilling 3-day celebration of everything related to pop culture, games, cosplaying, and an incredible costume contest that was truly impressive.

Additionally, DCC participated in a community trunk-or-treat event for a princess party company. Instead of dressing up as Tiana, Coffee decided to go all out as Ursula. While some children loved the costume, others ran off, but it was a rewarding experience to be part of a community-focused group.

In late October, we had a great time at a costume contest featuring a fantastic prize bag filled with amazing items worth $1000. The contest was hosted by Not Another Film Organization and was held at Bad Astronaut Brewery. Attendees had the opportunity to watch 4 short films, interact with actors and producers, and engage with local vendors. I participated in the costume competition along with David the Smiley, Legacy_Airbrush, and Bryan_Card, among approximately 30 other contestants.

The competition was fierce, but David the Smiley impressed everyone with his Ruby Rhod cosplay from the movie 5th Element, securing the first place. Following that, we participated in another costume competition where participants could win cash and prizes worth up to $4000 as runners-up or the winner. The event took place at Central Houston Nissan and attracted a large audience in stunning costumes. Our group, consisting of myself, David the Smiley, Legacy_Airbrush, and Bryan_Card, was present to take part in the contest.

The competition began with all participants dressed in costumes and holding a balloon. Subsequently, the judges discreetly moved around and popped the balloon of the contestant who did not advance to the next round. Beetlejuice, also known as Bryan-Card, was the last of DCC standing but didn't take home the win. Our competitors such as transformers, a towering 10 ft Venom, Beast, and various other impressive characters in the lineup were overwhelmingly good!

After taking a two-week break following a busy October, we are excited to inform you that our Best of Texas Cosplay Friendsgiving will take place this Saturday at The Silo in Houston, running from 7 pm to 11 pm. This gathering serves as a fundraiser for Disability Comic Con 2025. We look forward to your presence and wish you the best of luck in competing for the $500 prize in our costume contest!
